Southern Cross Pre-school is based in Portslade at Southern Cross Church halls (please note we are not connected to the church we just rent the premises). We have two lovely large halls and a garden, away from the road. The pre-school is safe and secure allowing children to move freely between all areas.
We offer high quality childcare where children learn through play and exploring with qualified, experienced, caring practitioner's. Many of our practitioner's are parents themselves so have lots of experience in caring for young children. We are proud to say most of our staff have been with us for many years so we have a happy constant team. This helps the children feel more secure as they see the same practitioners regularly.
We accept all cultural, ethnic, religious and social backgrounds. We are not connected to any particular religious belief, we celebrate the festivals of many cultures so children learn about different customs in our community.

We sometimes take the children out on trips in our local area to further their learning experiences. An example of some places we have visited are:

Local garden centre to buy seeds and plants to grow in our garden or for children to take home

Visit to the park looking a nature

We visit a local nursing home where the children and the elderly residents socialise, play and sing together

Trips to the shops to buy fruit so children can make fruit kebabs or other cooking items

Visit to Mile Oak farm to see the animals

Visit to Hove toy museum looking at toys from the past

Charity status
We are a registered charity so we run a non-profit pre-school. All profits go into providing resources for the children and ensuring the quality of service is at its best.
We hold fund raising events each year and we get everyone involved. These are lots of fun and always very sociable occasions.

The Committee
We have a committee which help us to run the Pre-School. The committee is made up of volunteers; many of which are parents. We hold meetings each term to discuss fundraising, finances, setting policies and much more. The committee help organise fundraising events which enable us to purchase more resources for our children and to improve our practice. We always encourage families to get involved and help where they can. This gives everyone a sense of community. ​
